"Going Deeper to Reveal the Beauty" (By Sheri Morgan)

[NOTE: Sheri Morgan, a good friend of ours and one of our "Spiritual Daughters," was sharing some things she was doing with her flowers. After hearing this, we thought it was very similar to the process that we experience in our walk with God. We asked her if she would write it down and this is what you're reading here. My beautiful hanging pansies . . Or so I thought. Full and vibrant on top.
So, I did what I didn't want to do . . I dug deep into the base of the plant and rooted out the dead leaves. I untangled the vines and, in the process, watched the beautiful flowers fall.
These two are coming back a little bit each day. Plants are not my thing, but each year I spend money to try and see how long I can sustain them. The process of caring for them and this particular situation reminds me of what we go through in counseling and in life. We might look full and healthy on top. But sometimes there are root issues that are concealed under the beautiful appearance. Issues that cause us to adjust to "survive."
Counselors have the challenge I did . . . They have to gently tell you that you look great, but then they have to begin to dissect the entanglements that lay below in our heart. It is a painful process for all. But once the trimming takes place, slowly, growth returns and the hope is that we learn from the process. We feel the feelings instead of letting them return to what is comfortable.
They're growing!
